Success Story
~8% average open rate across geofence campaigns
A significant share of geofence-driven revenue came from users who had not shopped at partner stores in the previous month
30–60x higher revenue per message: location-triggered vs. broadcast push
3 retail partners, 1 coordinated two-channel strategy
Chippin is Turkey’s first mobile payment-enabled shopping and loyalty app. Users pay in-store, online, or on the go across hundreds of partner brands and earn reward points on every transaction. Retail partners span major grocery, market, and home improvement chains.
Every campaign Chippin runs is designed to build a habit: users return to partner stores, pay with Chippin, and earn more with each visit. Knowing a relevant campaign will be waiting at their favorite stores, users develop genuine trust and loyalty in the app.
Users at two leading supermarket chains, and a major home improvement retailer were actually engaged with Chippin: they were paying in-store, interacting with the app during visits, and showing genuine interest in partner campaigns. The behavior was there.
The team saw an opportunity to build on this foundation. Bringing more visibility to those in-store moments would create a smoother, more connected shopping experience.
Chippin’s campaigns required users to complete purchases across multiple visits to partner stores. Users were already inside partner stores with Chippin on their phones, but without a timely signal, the campaign moment passed unnoticed.
The team set up geofence triggers across all three retail partners using Netmera. The moment a user entered a store, a message fired automatically, referencing the active campaign for that specific retailer and the reward waiting for them. Setup ran once per campaign, with Netmera handling delivery from there.
Geofence campaigns averaged an ~8% open rate across all three partners, 40 to 50 times higher than push in the same period. A meaningful share of users who converted through geofence triggers had not made a purchase at that retail partner in the previous month. Geofence brought lapsed users back into the purchase flow at the moment they were physically present in the store.
That reactivation effect, combined with high purchase intent, explains why geofence generated 30 to 60 times more revenue per send than broadcast push, despite reaching a fraction of the total audience.
Geofence messaging covered the in-store moment, but campaigns ran over multiple days and required repeat visits. Users who hadn’t entered a partner store recently had no visibility into active campaigns or approaching deadlines. Awareness alone was a conversion lever Chippin hadn’t fully used.
The team ran parallel push notification campaigns across all three retail partners using Netmera. Messages highlighted campaign details, reward amounts, and deadlines to pull users back to the app. Every registered user received these communications, regardless of whether they had visited a store recently.
Push campaigns reached millions of users across all three partners combined. Open rates sat between 0.15% and 0.2%, consistent with broad-audience push benchmarks. The channel contributed roughly 40% of total campaign revenue, a meaningful share given the scale of reach and the low per-message cost of delivery.
Some users hadn’t purchased in a month, but they were still walking into stores. Geofence reached them there, while push notifications kept Chippin visible for everyone else until they were ready. Both the support from Netmera’s team and their customer engagement platform made running two channels in one coordinated campaign possible.

Chippin had data on campaign performance: Push notifications reached millions while geofence reached far fewer. Without channel-level revenue data, there was no basis for deciding where to invest next.
Netmera’s reporting gave the team a clear view of revenue per sent message across both channels. Because geofence and push ran simultaneously across the same retail partners and campaigns, the results were directly comparable, with no external factors distorting the picture.
Geofence messages reached users inside the store, at the moment of highest purchase intent, and a notable portion of those users had been inactive at that partner in the prior month. Push covered scale and kept campaigns visible between visits. Geofence drove efficiency and reactivation. Together they gave Chippin a complete picture of where to invest next.

Segmentation, campaign delivery, and performance tracking all happened inside Netmera. We could compare geofence against push on the same dashboard, and both channels had a clear role. Geofence drove efficiency, push drove scale, and together they accounted for the full campaign result.
